How to Donate Your Car, Truck, SUV, Boat, or RV in Four Easy Steps

Step 1: Contact Goodwill about your Vehicle Donation

Step 2: Preparing your Vehicle for Donation

Preparing the vehicle title for donation can be somewhat confusing, so we will walk you through it step-by-step. The Goodwill Auto Auction representatives are extremely knowledgeable about auto donation and can answer any questions you many have. Please have your vehicle title handy when you contact us.

Prior to donating your vehicle, you may want to take one last look through the interior and in the trunk to remove personal items and items with your name and address on them. In addition, please remove the license plates prior to donation. Donating your car, truck, boat or RV to Goodwill is a generous gift. We wouldn't want you to accidentally leave anything in your car.

Step 3: We Pick Up Your Vehicle — Free

Whether your car, truck, SUV, or boat runs or not, we will tow it away for you for free. In the online donation form, you can provide the address and location of the vehicle.

Step 4: Receive your Tax Deduction

Goodwill will send you a letter after the vehicle is sold, telling you the amount we received for your vehicle. This information can attach a copy of the letter to an income tax return for proof of donation. Under new tax laws effective in 2005, you may claim the actual amount for which the vehicle sells at auction.
